Native Grasslands in Partnership: Pepperwood Preserve

Everything is better in collaboration - and working towards restoring native grasslands is no small feat!

Through the 2025-2026 California Climate Action Corps fellows at Conservation Works, we have been able to partner with Pepperwood Preserve in restoring native grasslands and grassland education. Our fellows were able to participate in two planting days, bringing California’s state grass purple needlegrass back to the lush hillsides along the preserve. They invited volunteers and shared knowledge on grassland superpowers - carbon sequestration, water retention, wildfire prevention, and as a vital food source for the plethora of local biodiversity.

We hope this can be a continued partnership as restoration happens across the preserve and education across the county. It started with two plantings and almost 2,000 grass plugs planted - and we look forward towards many more!
